A recent case I have had: A young male pled guilty to one citation but not the other; he then consulted with me on the second. We were able to reverse the guilty plea on the first one before it got processed to PennDOT. We then addressed both citations in court to obtain a satisfactory result for the client. He never lost his license for any period of time. His license would have been suspended but we got it stopped.
When you receive a citation for a traffic violation you often times pay a fine (many times when you are angry just to be done with the problem) and you have no idea that as a result your license will be suspended until after you get the notice from PennDOT.
Before you plead guilty and pay that fine, come and see me. The situation can often be resolved without you receiving points or a suspension.
A SECOND CASE (why everyone needs a lawyer):
A friend of mine, who is a lawyer, was cited for "Failure to stop for school bus with flashing red lights". The penalty after a finding of guilt is a sixty day loss of license suspension, five points and payment of lots of money. She represented herself at the magisterial district justice and lost. She then appealed to the court of common pleas at the county level and had a fellow lawyer in her law firm represent her at trial; she lost again. Her license was suspended for six months; it was difficult for her and her family.
I have represented several people concerning the same citation. None have lost their license. My friend never talked to me about the case. I wish she would have.
